Glenhaven Football Club Code Of Conduct

Code of Conduct for Senior Players (Youth League [U18-U21], AA, O35, O45 and PL)

Players tell us they want a referee for every match, yet good match officials drop out each season because of the abuse and intimidation they receive on and off the pitch. Respect your referee today and you may find you get one for more matches tomorrow!

We all have a responsibility to promote high standards of behaviour in football, and that’s why we’re asking you to follow a Code of Conduct if you play for Glenhaven Football Club.

On and off the field, I will:

• Respect my coach and team manager, and respond to what they tell me.
• Respect my team-mates, and the other team.
• Adhere to the laws of the game and play by the rules, as directed by the referee.
• Play fairly – I won’t cheat or waste time.
• Always respect the match officials’ decisions.
• Never engage in public criticism of the match officials.
• Never engage in offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour.
• Never engage in bullying, intimidation or harassment.
• Remember we all make mistakes.
• Win or lose with dignity.
• Shake hands with the opposing team and the referee at the end of every game.

I understand that if I do not follow this Code, any/all of the following actions may be taken by the club or competition administrator (Hills Football). I may:

• Be required to apologise to my team-mates, the other team and the referee.
• Receive a formal warning from the coach or the club committee.
• Be dropped or substituted.
• Be suspended from playing for a period of time.
• Be fined (as per the associations by-laws).
• Be required to leave the club.

Code of Conduct for Coaches, Parents and Spectators

Coaches, parents and spectators have a responsibility to support a child’s football activities in a positive way, both on and off the field. This includes being a role model by encouraging good behaviour, not only in your own child, but also their team mates, coach, manager and other spectators. Supporting your child and their team is natural, but it needs to be done in a positive and harassment-free environment.

As a coach, parent or spectator, I will:

  • Remember that children participate in sport for their enjoyment, not yours.
  • Encourage children to participate, not force them.
  • Focus on a child’s efforts and performance rather than whether they win or lose.
  • Encourage children to play according to the rules and to settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game.
  • Not engage in harassment or abuse in any form, including the use of obscene or offensive language or gestures.
  • Respect officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise.
  • Remember that children learn best by example. I will therefore appreciate good performance, skill and sportsmanship by all participants.
  • Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them, your child could not participate.
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

I understand that if I do not follow this Code, any/all of the following actions may be taken by the club or competition administrator (Hills Football). I may:

  • Be required to apologise to other parents, the other team and the referee.
  • Receive a formal warning from the club committee.
  • Be suspended from attending matches.
  • The competition administrator may impose a fine, suspension or loss of competition points against my team or club.
  • My child’s registration may be cancelled.
